Evan + Kaylin | White Clay Creek State Park Engagement Session

There’s much to love about Evan and Kaylin’s engagement session, though the two things that to this day still make me smile are Meatball and Beowulf- Evan and Kaylin’s cat and their love/hate relationship with an Old English epic poem, that is! I’m definitely a fan of including pets but a cat was a first for me! We waited until the end of the session for Meatball’s photo debut (as he’s not an outside cat and a ride in the crate usually means a vet visit, not a casual picnic in the park) and we were unsure of how he would react (would he claw the crap out of Kaylin’s face?!). Much to our surprise, he did great! Beowulf’s appearance was also a sweet personal touch. No, it’s not a heart-warming love story, though how it became so meaningful to Evan and Kaylin is indeed. They are both avid readers and early in their relationship Evan gifted Kaylin three different translations thinking she enjoyed the poem (when truth be told she hated it!). Finding and appreciating the humor of it all, what was once a joke is now a tradition- he gifts her a new translation (or two!) every year! While I can’t help but chuckle when I think of, or dare say aloud, the word simpatico (have you seen the movie Bad Teacher?), these two are textbook definition of the adjective and truly a pleasure to be around. I’m beyond grateful they chose me to capture their love story.
